I learned in this literature lesson that villains may not be totally bad, while heroes may not be totally good.

A villain that is totally bad will not evoke pity in the readers/viewers when he dies or is defeated.

However, a hero that is totally good is unbelievable too.

Therefore, we need to aim for characters that are not perfect to make our stories believable because no one is perfect.
